Coronary Artery Disease
Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)
When coronary arteries narrow or become blocked,
The heart muscle suffers.
If medications and percutaneous interventions are insufficient —
or if the disease is diffuse — coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) remains the gold standard.
CABG involves using arteries or veins from elsewhere in the body to bypass blockages, restoring oxygen-rich blood flow.
Advances Include:
- Off-pump CABG (Avoiding the heart-lung machine in select patients) .
- Minimally invasive or robotic-assisted grafting in specialized centers .
Proper patient selection is crucial. A collaborative approach between cardiologists and surgeons — often called a heart team — ensures that each patient receives the best individualized therapy.
